NAMLE Merit Award
The Nebraska Association for Middle Level Education is excited to award two, Two Hundred and Fifty Dollar
($250) merit awards to Middle level educators within the State of Nebraska. This merit award is for new and
innovative instructional concept/strategy to be implemented within a classroom/school.
Qualifications:
Applicant(s) must be a Nebraska middle level teacher currently employed .5 FTE, or comprise a team of
teachers in a middle school or junior high setting.
Required to hold current membership privileges with NAMLE (individual, dual or institutional). If unsure
of membership, contact Bill Curry, NAMLE Registrar, at wcurry@esu7.org to confirm membership.
Merit award winners will be expected to present materials at the 2012 NAMLE Professional
Development Institute- date TBA. This presentation may be video taped and provided on the NAMLE
website for professional development webinar.
o Winners will receive their personal check at the State Professional Development Institute.
o School Districts represented by each award winner will receive a check for $125 to be used for
o expenses associated with the recipient’s attendance.

The project you are submitting must be new and innovative. To be considered “new and innovative” for
the purpose of the NAMLE Merit Award, the project must be developed in the summer prior to and/or
implemented for the first time during this school year.
Due: January 16, 2012 Notification of award recipients: February, 2012
The application should be limited to no more than 3 pages. Please send a copy of your application to
the NAMLE selection committee. Merit Award applications should be emailed or postmarked by
January 16th, 2012.
NAMLE Award of Excellence
The following criteria will be used in the selection of up to three candidates or teams (maximum of
four team members honored). Candidates should:
Possess a wealth of knowledge about young adolescent development
Continuously expands their knowledge and skill base
Believe in all students’ ability to succeed
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to help all students achieve success
Exhibit best practices in middle level education.
Three letters of recommendation from an administrator, colleague, and parent/student (refer to
page two).
Nominee must be a NAMLE member as an individual, dual, or institutional (check with
building principal) member.
Each recipient will be featured on the NAMLE website, will receive a plaque honoring this
accomplishment, and a one-year membership to NAMLE.
